Stun Guns
Stun Guns are an electroshock weapon that temporarily disables a person with electric shock, either by direct contract or at a distance. They use a temporary high-voltage low current electric discharge to override the body’s natural muscle triggering mechanisms. According to many sources, a shock of half a second duration will cause intense pain and muscle contractions startling most people. Two to three seconds will often cause the subject to become dazed and drop to the ground, and over three seconds will usually completely disorient and drop an attacker for at least several seconds and possibly for up to fifteen minutes. Because the amount of current used in a stun gun is relatively low, stun guns are considered to have a relatively high margin of safety in regards to being lethal. Most experts generally agree that this margin is largely dependent on the overall health of the person subjected to the shock and the voltage used by the stun gun. Normally, the higher the voltage, the more effective it is. It may take several seconds to subdue a subject with 100 kV, but only about a second with 1 MV (1,000 kV).
Tasers
The name Taser is an acronym for "Thomas A. Swift's Electric Rifle". Jack Cover, an Arizona inventor, designed the taser 1969 and named it after the science fiction teenage inventor and adventurer character Tom Swift. Tasers which are currently used by a number of police agencies world wide fire small dart-like electrodes that are atached with metal wires connected to the gun. The taser wires are propelled by gas cartidges like those used in air guns, and use a shaped pulse / arc of electricity to disrupt muscle and nerve functions, eliminating the need to penetrate the skin. Like stun guns, tasers are considered to by relatively safe in regards to being lethal.
Both Stun Guns and Tasers are illegal in some states as well as a few select cities and counties. Many other products also have age restrictions and shipping restrictions. This is also true for various other self defense products, such as Knives, AirSoft Guns, Pepper Spray, Mace, and micsellaneous weaponry.
